Made of 10.1 oz army duck double fill canvas, the highest quality canvas available. SEWN IN FLOOR – Be advised some companies have sewn in floors but do not have door zippers that are parallel to the ground, only a flap that covers the sewn in floor. These spike tents are not snake or bug proof. Our canvas spike tent has an inverted T door zippers which makes our spike tent bug and snake proof. See door zipper photo below. SPIKE TENT IS VERY WELL DESIGNED AND VERY HIGH QUALITY. 3 Pole roof support design – front- center – back – poles allows for extra headroom at the front and the rear of the spike tent for easy entry and more standing room inside compared to single and double pole spike tents. Most other spike tents have only 1-2 poles which does not provide as much roof support. Longest Aluminum Pole is 31. Interior aluminum poles, center and at each door, 1 1/4 outside diameter. OUTSIDE WALL POLES – EVERY 3′. 3/4 aluminum outside diameter. Middle outside wall support pole is not shown in photo. Legs are 2 pieces. 2 Side Windows have screen mesh with zippered flaps on inside. FRONT AND BACK DOORS are 6’4″ and rises up to 7’11″ at the center for the 10×10 and 12 x12.. 14×14 center height is 9′. Floor and side walls sewn together with black webbing for extra reinforcement and strength. Tub vinyl floor design to keep seams off ground to prevent possible leaks at seams. Heavy, heavy duty vinyl floor to prevent punctures and prevent water leaking into the tent. FRONT & BACK SCREEN DOORS. Screen door covers entire end of tent to provide more ventilation than other tents which have partial screens on end of tent. Screen doors do not have an inverted T zipper which means the screen doors or not entirely bug proof. FOR YOUR SAFETY, you must have a fireproof material under your stove, minimum 12″ to front and 6″ to sides and the back. The walls are 4′ , making the floor space more usable than spike tents with 3′ walls. TOTAL Weight Spike Package includes: tent, poles ropes & tensioners. Floors do not have a cut out for the stove. A cut out for stove allows insects and varmints to enter through the cut out area. Also, sometimes water pools under the stove when a cut out floor is used. We use a continuous floor with a mat under the stove to keep out bugs, rodents and water. It is best to keep all floor seams off ground to eliminate possible water leakage into a tent. Canvak recommended for all floor seams if you have seams on ground. NY, NJ, MN, MI, MA, CA and LA require Fire Treated tents. Canadian regulations require all canvas tents to be Fire Treated, this Wilderness Tent is not Fire Treated. I had a chance to set up the spike tent I ordered from you a couple weeks ago. Great design on the spike tent! I haven’t seen a tent on the market stitched with that quality for the price. The design is just excellent. The extras like stove jack, floor, windows, zip, would cost a hell of a lot more from other manufacturers. I set it up by myself for the first time, took me 35 minutes. It’s a very well thought out design. Spike tent kept me warm and dry dring elk season. Wilderness 4 stove easily heated my 12 x12 spike tent. I received the 12×12 spike tent. Everything in excellent condition. You did an excellent job of packing the tent. I have given some thought to a fly and will order one and a wilderness stove to complete this tent. I did take your advice for the tent stakes and made them out of 1/2 rebar as you suggested. Many thanks for an excellent product and prompt service. I really enjoy it. I plan on getting many years of use this spike tent because it is high, high quality. Fly is highly recommended. Fly provides protection from. Stove pipe sparks on roof burning pin holes in the canvas. It provides another moisture barrier. Allows water and snow to run off the roof easily as fly is a smooth poly material. Rain water and snow is forced 1 foot from side of tent because the fly extends 1 foot past each side wall. Keeps your spike tent clean. If you get tree pitch or tree resin on your roof you will need a strong detergent to remove tree pitch or resin. The harsh detergent will also remove the fire, water and mildew treatment. You will have leaks in the canvas at every location where the strong detergent was used. A 4 gap between the fly and top of sidewall is recommended. Gap is accomplished by having the fly rope stakes farther away from the tent than the tent eave rope stakes. This tipi is made out of mildew, fire and water resistant Sunfor g er material, which will last much longer that regular that regular cotton based fabric. When you compare other cotton based tents, please consider what the material is made cotton duck vs. Please ask if you have any questions… The material of o. Ur tents are made of 12.63 ounce Sunforger, which is 100% cotton material, which is mildew, water, and fire resistant material, including all straps and stake loops. This 12.63 ounce material is thicker than other Sunforger material (such as the 10.10 ounce) and will last longer and hold up to the elements better than the lighter material. All our line is made of sisal and/or hemp rope and the entire tipi is made of natural materials. It is washable and can be placed directly into a washing machine. This twelve-foot diameter tipi can be used for wilderness camping, but would also work best as a back yard sleepover, side corner in a bedroom, or comfy-corner for an elementary classroom. North Prairie tipi uses industrial sewing machines to easily handle the thickest and most durable material. Our tipi fabric are not a simple bed sheet, but durable cotton duck that is roughly the same thickness as regular denim jeans. The seams that connect the fabric panels are the same lap stitch used on the inseam or out-seam on most denim jeans: high quality, fray resistant, lapped in a way to shed water off the tipi, rather than working its way inside the tipi. Our tents are made of 100% washable cotton, including all straps and stake loops – no polyester! All our line is made of either sisal and/or hemp rope and, with the exception of the thread, the entire tipi is made of natural materials. What your order includes. IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO CONSIDER. We often have backorders. This Lavvu tent is made out of mildew, fire and water resistant Sunfor g er material, which will last much longer that regular that regular cotton based fabric. When you compare other cotton based tents, please consider what the material is made cotton duck vs. Please ask if you have any questions… What is a Lavvu? The Lavvu is a temporary dwelling used by the Sami people (also spelled “Saami”, but derogatorily known as’Lapps’ or’Laplanders’) of northern Scandinavia and the Nenets and Khants of northern Russia. Its simplicity enabled the Sami to move quickly with their semi-domesticated reindeer herds at a moment’s notice. This structure enabled the indigenous cultures of the treeless plains of northern Scandinavia and the High Arctic of Eurasia to live in harmony with nature. Although the Lavvu can be easily confused with the Native American Tipi. It’s not a Tipi! The differences between the two structures are reflected in their respective environments and cultures. The lavvu is normally smaller and can be set up by only one person. Being more centered to the ground, the Lavvu is also better able to endure the fierce winds of the Scandinavian tundra, thus a more stable structure. Few structures used by indigenous peoples, with the exception of the Inuit (Eskimo) Igloo, are as stable in strong winds. What are the materials in this lavvu? The lavvu material is made 12.60 ounce Sunforger fabric, which is a common standard in North America for renactor tents and shows. Most tipis in North America are made of the material and it will last for many years with proper care. Sunforger is a chemically treated (a compound of salt) material that can withstand mold, mildew, and is fire and water resistant. In the official terminology, it is called a marine grade, boat shrunk, mildew resistant, flame retardant, and water repellent. Our Sunforger fabric meets CPAI-84 requirements for flame retardantcy of the State of California (which US material manufacturers use as the industry standard). Sunforger has been used for many years in other tent structures such as tipis, and it has been essential for lavvus that will be set up for over the entire season and/or in wet environments. There is little difference in fire resistance between cotton duck and Sunforger material. This fabric is most recommended for the following conditions. A If your lavvu will be set up for a longer period of time in one place, such as over the season; or… B If you live in a damp/wet environment such as east of the Mississippi River or along the Pacific Northwest. There is only one disadvantage with Sunforger, and that it’ s only in one color – which is white. There are other colors in Sunforger, but they are not CPAI-84 rated and therefore, not fire resistant. Lavvu, meaning that there are other tents out there that claim to have a’lavvu’, but are something very different. Our traditional lavvus is not made of synthetic materials, which means you can have a fire inside without the worry of polyester melting or fire hazards. There is no center pole in the real lavvu , which means you can have a campfire inside to cook or keep warm – in winter or summer. What does the lavvu look like? This lavvu is ten feet in diameter and about eight feet high and can sleep three people very comfortably with a fire inside, or four people without the fire. There is a smoke hole at the top to let smoke rise out of the lavvu and during set-up, can be made small enough to keep rain or snow out. There is an attached door, a carrying bag, and a thirty-plus page booklet that describes everything you need to know about the lavvu. Similar to a Native American Teepee, there are no guy-wires or ropes to worry about as with other tents. The poles do not need to be buried into the ground. The lavvu can be set up quickly by one person in about ten minutes and taken down in half that, with the total weight of about 28 pounds. Unlike the tipi, a Lavvu dose not need any stakes! No stakes are need for the lavvu. Because of the lower angle of the tent wall, the wind tends to push the lavvu into the ground, rather than pushing it over. The tipi requires stakes to be pounded into the ground, as the wind will tend to blow it over. I MPORTANT – The door color for this lavvu will come in the standard natural off-white , the same color as the fabric color. Since Sunforger does not come in any other color, the blue door as shown in this photo only for contrast. Are poles needed for the lavvu?
