A Few Tips & Advice for Beginners. Look for Ripstop tents which are of higher quality like ours. This is a very good beyond average tent for serious big hikes and alpine hikes, very lightweight and made for easy construction. It is self standing, meaning you can actually erect the tent without pegging the sides onto the ground. The design allows you to quickly build your tent by inserting the tent poles into the groundsheet’s available pole holes. The ability to self stand is very handy if caught out at bad times and having to build your tent during rain, bad weather, or during dusk, dawn or night when there is no light to see your surroundings – or you just simply dont bother pegging your tent! Of course, we always recommend pegging it if you can (or later) especially you are to walk away from your tent dont forget its less than 1.7kg once its built up! Just make sure it has weight inside if its very windy and you are not sleeping inside so it doesnt get blown off if you are in a windy area. Being self standing is good too if you are camping on hard ground or areas where pegging is not suitable. If you do not peg it, just attaching all the poles to get the tent structure up (and ready to use), it only takes us 5 minutes (However, we’re seasoned hikers and tent builders so lets allow 10mins or a little more if you’ve never built a tent before . This tent is suitable to use in snow as well! Snow covered ground, light snow, these are fine because the inner tent is built higher up so that snow will not splatter into your tent when it does happen. It is good to keep cold chilly wind in the cold months as well. However, we wouldn’t recommend you to bring this to Mount Everest or somewhere with severe snow storms (out of Australia)! For even more serious hiking like these, we’ll have some really strong tents coming up for these adventures in the near future. If the area is windy, you will definitely feel it move the tent, because it is very light and have a flexible structure, but it will survive, do not fear! Always build your tent near sheltered environment if possible for a peaceful sleep from wind areas. However, in some alpine hikes you may have to camp in open areas. If however, you are in for something that can hold itself steadier during windy times, go for our 1.3 or 1.5kg X shaped structure type of tents instead of the Y shaped ones for this model. Our advertised tent is double walled, which is most suited for weather where there is risk of rain and humidity. The rainfly is waterproof which goes above your tent body, while the tent body provides breathability and air to avoid stuffiness in the tent compared to single walled tents. This differs from single walled tents, in which you may wake up with heavy condensation in your tent as the single piece of fabric has to stay waterproof enough to block out rain, thus sacrificing breathability.
