This is an excellent, extraordinarily versatile durable mountaineering class tent. Unlike most mountaineering class tents, this original version of the marmot swallow is suitable for use any time of year and is adaptable to serve as a reliable shelter in any type of conditions. Though not an ultra light shelter, it is one of the lightest weight double walled expeditionary mountaineering tents, and has the advantage that it can be setup in three different configurations, including fast pitch configuration with just the foot print and the tent fly, the tent alone, or full on bomber with footprint, tent and fly. In short, this is a “go to” tent for every trip where having a stout, reliable shelter is a priority over an ultra light set up.

No matter which configuration you choose, you will feel safe, secure, and protected in this tent. This tent has proven its worth as a hard core shelter that will stand up to anything you can throw at it.

Its versatile design, with its incredible venting possibilities, makes it possible to deal with monsoons in the tropics, howling blizzards in the arctic, and still be comfortable pitching the tent “cabana style” on the beach in costa rica. In short, this is a go anywhere tent that is both durable and relatively light weight. This tent should not be confused with later “3 season” versions developed by marmot which are not in the same category as this original “4 season” design. As a result, these early versions of the swallow have a dedicated group of followers who appreciate what this shelter has to offer and know they can count on it in critical conditions. This particular tent has had only one owner and. It has never been used as a shelter. It has been stored ever since and every once in a while brought out and set up to air out. As is typical on tents of this vintage, the urethane coating applied by the factory to the tent fly has partially deteriorated in some areas which are somewhat noticeable close up. The tent fly itself is otherwise in excellent condition. (take a look at all the photos of the fly and the last photo which shows close up shots of some of the more noticeable areas where the urethane coating has decayed).

The tent fly was professionally cleaned and treated with a dwr. The second to last photo shows the current ability of the fly to effectively repel water. However, i do not guarantee that the dwr will continue to prevent the fabric on the tent fly from wetting through. This is a superb tent that will serve your needs for a durable shelter for years to come. From a smoke free/pet free environment.
