Carbon fibre/fiber tent pole/poleset upgrade for Hilleberg Soulo or Unna tent
Carbon fibre replacement pole set for Hilleberg Soulo or Unna tent (grey/black – see pictures). The grey/black poles are the carbon sets that are for sale. Please add a note to which tent’s poleset you want. The original gold Soulo poles are shown in pictures 4, 7 & 8, including it being double-poled in pictures 7 & 8. Total weight of the Soulo carbon pole set is 396g (The gold-coloured aluminium DAC originals are 538g). Total weight of the Unna carbon pole set (pictures 9-12) is 316g. I’ll include a replacement carbon section piece, with an unmounted insert in case they need a repair. The domed pole end-pieces press in, and the 3/32 shock cord is held in place by a knot behind a washer in the end sections. The Unna poles (pictures 9-12) have plastic end pieces, which are a little lighter. Happy to offer either. They’re made using Easton carbon sections and appropriate parts from Quest Outfitters. I got them to make some replacements for my light tents, and thought I’d try an sell some to cover the costs. Watch out for Quest’s warnings about being careful with carbon poles – they need to be fitted together more carefully than aluminum ones to avoid damage, but are robust when together. As the Soulo has accessible poles clipped to the tent it’s easy to check; the Unna’s sleeves need a bit more care. The poleset should be suitable as a direct replacement, or a light spare, or a lighter extra set to carry for double poling of the tent. Since carbon and aluminium have different mechanical properties, pairing them up together might increase stability. The Soulu has 3 poles (short red one & two equal lengths for white & blue sleeves), and they are relatively long, hence the price: for comparison a set of Hilleberg’s replacement DAC poles for the Soulo costs GBP140. The Unna has 2 longer equal-length poles, replacements are listed at GBP57 each.
